On August 12, 2011, a young 18-year-old man named Kurt W, Becker joined the ranks as a firefighter of Engine Company # 2.
A 3rd generation East Meadow volunteer firefighter in the Becker family following in the steps of his father, three-time Ex-Chief Eric W. Becker, and his grandfather, the late Ex-Captain George Becker, Kurt already possessed many of the tools to be an outstanding firefighter.
A product of East Meadow’s Junior Fire Company prior to joining Engine 2, Kurt continued to learn firefighting, leadership, and respect. True definition of the Engine Company he would join.
But it was his learning as a child that build the firefighter we have today as years prior, Kurt could be seen riding with his dad to calls in the Chief’s car.
In his earliest years as a firefighter, Kurt quickly demonstrated the skills of our job, fire call after fire call.
In May of 2019, all Kurt possessed shined brightly in the eyes of his company as he was elected 2nd Lieutenant.
It was a time when all company officers and Chiefs would switch gears to lead our department through a Pandemic that would require changes in how we responded, how we trained, and how we conducted our meetings, just to name a few. Through it all, not a stone was left unturned to provide for our residents.
In the years that followed, Kurt’s leadership qualities would result in his election to 1 st Lieutenant in 2020, and on to Captain in 2021.
In 2022, Kurt would be elected Captain once again leading his company.
In a company that trains far beyond the expectation of the Departments By-Laws, Kurt, a New York State Trooper, brought even more to the table with his long list of specialized training as he built his paid professional career to great heights in a similar manner to his dad Eric, a decorated retired Police Office for the City of New York.
Now in May of 2023, Kurt W Becker, was elected 3 rd Asst Chief of the East Meadow Fire Department. No longer in charge of a company, Kurt will now lead our 7 companies along with his fellow Chiefs.
Engaged to his very supportive Fiance’ Mary, the future for both our Department, and Asst Chief Becker shines brightly.
Please join us in welcoming our newest Chief to office. No doubt our organization will continue to excel in protecting our community in the same tradition as our outstanding leaders of the past.
