Busy EMFD Hits 2nd Working House Fire in a Week

On September 28, 2025, East Meadow firefighters responded to a house fire on Merrick Avenue near Prospect Avenue just after 10 p.m. Chief of Department Michael J. Wood arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the two-story home and transmitted a working fire. Crews from Engines 612 and 614 and Ladder 617 quickly went to work, locating and extinguishing an attic fire that began in the kitchen. With support from mutual aid departments, 70 East Meadow volunteers brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
