Mike was born in East Meadow in 1921.
Mike enlisted in the US Marine Corps during WWII and afterwards returned to Manhattan College to get his Bachelor Physical Education Degree and later his Masters in Education at Hofstra.
He joined Engine Company 2 in July 7, 1947 and served as Captain in 1950, Chief of the Dept. in 1953, Commissioner from 1956 until 1965 and as a member of the State Champion Meadowlark’s Drill Team.
Mike was involved in many associations and was influential in starting the East Meadow Kiwanis Club where he served as the Charter President.
The Michael J. Kostynick Gym in EMHS was dedicated in his memory.
Mike passed away in 1985.
