On May 26th at 1:36 am, EMFD volunteers from Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, Ladders 1, 2, and Rescue 5 were alerted to a reported House Fire with possible persons trapped on Eighth Street.
Within three minutes, Chief Michael Wood, and his Assistant Chiefs Kurt Becker, Jeffrey Rosenthal, and John O’Brien Jr were enroute.
On arrival, Chiefs found smoke pouring from the 2nd floor of the 2 story residence, with occupants already being assisted from the home.
A Signal 10 was transmitted (Working Fire: First pumper connects to a hydrant, and mutual aid resources from neighboring towns are called upon to either act as a Firefighter Assist Search Team (FAST), or to fill the empty East Meadow fire stations in the event of any other alarms.

Firefighters quickly moved the attack hose line up the stairs to extinguish the fire as additional fire crews arrived to assist.
Within 15 minutes all visible fire had been knocked down, as firefighters continued to check for any hidden pockets of fire.
Although the home suffered heat, smoke, and water damage, the fire was held to a 2nd floor room.

Units secured by 4am giving firefighters some time for rest before their march in our annual Memorial Day parade.
