Elmer Oakley Wood

Elmer was born June 1st, 1917 to Angeline and Freeman Wood and lived on a dirt road we now know as Hempstead Turnpike.

Elmer and Marie Lebkuecher (oldest sister of Andy) were married on June 16, 1946.

“Woody” served in the Medical Corps during WWII.

Wood had many interesting jobs over the years including working on the F-14 and the Lunar Excursion Module for Grumman.

He also was a dispatcher for the East Meadow Fire District.

Wood joined the East Meadow Fire Department in 1963 and attained the rank of Captain in 1968.

He passed away 1976.
